About the Bike Ride
Fundraisers take many forms, but this fundraiser is no bake sale or car wash. Instead, it stretches from Redlands, California to West Point, New York – on a tandem bicycle.
Husband and wife, Dick and Susan Rogers, are biking across country on a tandem bike as a fundraiser for Mustard Seed Tutorial Center, a non-profit tutoring center in Redlands, California. Mustard Seed is a low-cost remedial tutoring center for students in kindergarten through twelfth grade. Susan is a current volunteer tutor at the tutoring center and Dick is the Treasurer on Mustard Seed’s Board.
At the conclusion of their journey, they will attend the 50th reunion of Dick’s West Point graduating class.
This is their second bike ride across the United States, but this time, there will be new scenery and new stops along the way. In 2004, they rode their tandem bike from Seattle, Washington to West Point, New York. They will embark on their journey February 21, 2009 from Redlands and arrive in West Point on April 28, 2009.
Their bike ride across the states will span about 3,400 miles without any support vehicles. The Rogers will be journaling and taking pictures along the way, which will be posted on Mustard Seed’s website, www.mstc.us/2009bikeride.
All donations from the fundraiser will go to operations at Mustard Seed Tutorial Center. Mustard Seed has provided low-cost assistance to local children and their families since 1994. Mustard Seed provides various programs, including seminars which focus on specific subjects with a small group of students, one-on-one tutoring, and skill reinforcements in the computer lab.
