Mustard Seed Staff
When Mustard Seed Tutorial Center opened in 1994, there were no paid employees. Rather, the program’s founder, Nancie Nelson, staffed the program essentially full-time on a volunteer basis. The tutoring at the program was carried out by volunteers and Mrs. Nelson supervised their work. After Mrs. Nelson’s death in early 2001, Mustard Seed hired its first full-time employee. Since that time, the paid staff has grown considerably.
These staffers support the corps of volunteer tutors that continue to do the main work of the center. Between 50 and 80 community members volunteer at any given time to help students. These volunteers are given tools by the staff to do their jobs effectively.
